On the first Friday of each month, Tehachapi Treasure Trove hosts a First Friday FunFest. In the spirit of the long-tanding tradition in the art world, several other downtown business also participate in First Friday activities.
On Friday Evening, September 1, Tehachapi Treasure Trove will celebrate First Friday from 5-8 p.m. Featured artists will be Mike and Peggy Finley. Mike is a wood worker crafting beautiful boxes and other wood pieces. Peggy creates wonderful paintings using watercolor, colored pencil and Chinese brush painting techniques. Come and see their work, enjoy our usual food, wine, good conversation and laughter along with music by Art Larsen on clarinet.
Born in Tehachapi, Mike Finley has always lived in the area. He spent 30 years as a fire fighter in working out of Bakersfield. After retiring he started a water well pump installation and repair business. Mike learned his craft from his father who also loved to work with wood. He crafted some of the furniture for their house when they were young newly weds. He has been doing art wood for about the past three years.
In time for her to start Kindergarten, Peggy’s Family moved to Tehachapi. She has lived in the area ever since. Peggy worked as a travel agent in the area for a number of years and now assists her husband with his well pump business. Her interest in art came from her Father and Grandmother who were local artists. Peggy started creating serious art about 8 years ago by taking watercolor classes with Jim Walsh. She has been studying and creating Chinese brush painting for about 6 years and for the last 5 years has been taking drawing lessons.
Mike and Peggy grew up together going to the same Sunday school and toTehachapi High School. They were your classic High School sweet hearts. They have been married for 35 years. They live with their dogs in the foothills near Country Oaks. They are both magnificent artists. Come and appreciated the great work created by this couple.
